Debb11
Hi All I have two 4 week old Pekin chicks and just recently I've noticed that one of them is a bit off balance when standing still to preen herself, but is fine when walkIng or running after mum, but the other chick is fine, quite strong on it's legs. They are fed on glw chick feed, i have read that the chick may have vitamin b deficiency, but I don't know how it could or where I can buy the right vitamins for it, I have bought some soluble chicken tonic, but it don't have vitamin b added, what does anyone suggest? I have had them free ranging with mum since they were a week old with supervision and I guess I'm in the wrong? Many thanks Debb
surf_space
Hi, I'm not sure what the problem is but I found this link which might be useful. You have to read down the page a bit but it does say something to do with balance and nutrition. Hope this helps and good luck. http://dlhunicorn.conforums.com/index.cgi?board=casestudiesemergencies&action=display&num=1160927052
Redwing
The tonic should have vit B in, I can't imagine there would be a poultry tonic without it as it's so needed in a tonic You can buy a pigeon powder called b-pure quite cheaply and this can be sprinkled on their food, I use this stuff when I am worried about chick coordination/balance etc but I have Silkies which seem to have a habit of scaring me with their antics The tonic should do though, the problem at this stage doesn't sound too serious, Pekin chicks are pretty problem free to be honest
Debb11
Thanks Redwing and The Village Chickens I have tried surfing so many websites to find the problem with so many things and diseasea that thay can have/catch it can do your head in, it could be a vitamin deficency ? It just seems strange when she is the only one effected with it and the other quite strong on her feet. It just seems like her balance is like shes standing on something wobbly and trying to steady herself, ive also noticed she was gapping alittle? I cant worm her at the moment as the chicken tonic (Net Tex Liquid Tonic with added Seaweed ) is in the water and i have only the liquid worming solution ( Verm-X ). I have kept her in the small run with mum and sister now on the grass instead of running round the garden after mum wearing herself out. I would really hate to loose her as she is one of the only two survivors of my nest hopping chicken. Many Thanks Debb
