Hi All

Just a quick question - at what age should my silkies stop having growers and start on layers?

I think it can be quite varied, for hybrids people normally start them on layers at about 18 weeks, but pure breeds can be kept on growers a bit longer as they are slow to mature. I have heard some people keep them on growers till about 24 weeks, but I guess it requires a bit of judgement, and I wouldn't take my word as gospel.

 

Keeping them on growers doesn't harm them at all, and there are certainly those who will suggest that you just keep them on growers until you get your first egg.
