chocolatedog
Sorry - still thinking about new girls. Anyone any experience of these breeds? From what I can gather Bluebells can be mixed..... Sussex stars more popular. I spoke to a supplier and he also mentioned he's got these 2 breeds too - anyone know much about them? Thanks! daxigirl
Leghorns are nice pure breed birds, do a large white egg, should be quite prolific. Big red floppy combs and a pretty partridge type brown . Not sure about the other type.
chocolatedog
I believe the others type might be Buff Barred Rocks - buff vision of the Plymouth Rocks. Are they large hens compared to hybrids? I think despite the pretty markings on the brown leghorns I'm not keen on large floppy combs generally....
sparkysmum
I have a brown leghorn. Not a brain in her head and absolutely won't be picked up. In fact she runs at lightening speed to avoid people altogether. Lovely looking, huge and prolific layer of lovely white eggs tho'.
Angie
My leghorns are skittish , hate being picked up, if you can catch them that is , and make so much noise i wonder what i got them for . They lay the most wonderful white shelled egg , never miss a day, haven't gone broody ....yet ! I love there floppy combs and the little purrs they make when sat in the nest. My favorite are welsummers , nice hen.
