jimnpaula
Sorry to ask this question again and I know it's been said but I just can't find the answer using the search engine. How much run space does an average large fowl hen need? Do flat surfaces like tables and perches count towards the amount? I'm just wondering if I have room for more as I've 'only' got 9 now... zakjon-98
I think 1m squared per hen is the recommended space although if they were in a run permenantly or a lot of their time I would give them more
surf_space
I agree ...If an eglu classic has an option to be sold with two omlet chickens then 1 square meter should be enough for one bird, as the run is 2m long.
stu
I have four hens in a cube and a 2M run (see sig). They seem very happy scratching about in there, and I try and make sure there are things to scratch about for, as well as let them in the garden, when I am about to keep an eye on them. Until now, I would consider only area that they can scratch to be useful in terms of allocating space per bird, although other flat surfaces might keep them entertained too, and certainly exercised if they jump about on them.
