savena5630
Originally, I thought my chickens didn't like their pellets and had become fussy - but now I think it's because they haven't realised how to use their new feeder/realised how to get their food out. It's only a basic feeder on legs, with a rain shield, but it's quite difficult to see the food in the feeding part. I've tried feeding them mealworms from there, but they just pick those out. I needed a 6kg feeder as I am going away for a week and leaving my dad to look after them - thought using a large feeder would save him having to top it up daily. Any ideas? Or a better (but large) feeder? Thanks Edited August 10, 2012 by Guest
Lavenders_Blue
If they are happily picking the mealworms out of the feeder, then I'd guess they've worked out how to use it. I think they're maybe just being naughty hens! You may need to just let them get on with it, they will get hungry enough to eat I am sure. Is there any way that you can temporarily remove the rain hat so they can see/access the feeder more easily for the time being? No other ideas I am afraid beyond that.
