Hiya,

 

My two POL newbies are now 20 weeks old (French copper blue maran and black plymouth rock) and I was wondering when other with experience of the breeds when they started laying?

 

The maran has started squatting when I go to touch her but there combs although very red are still small.

 

I'm so impatient!!!!!!!

 

Just getting excited every day when I check!

There's no guarantee that any young pure breeds will start to lay this year.

 

The egg squat dance is a sure sign that it isn't far off though, so I think you may have eggs quite soon.

 

Are they kept in a run? Our first lot were totally free range and while I though they weren't laying they were actually hiding them in a hedge!

 

One day I saw one laying and when I checked it out there were 28 eggs in the clutch.

They are in a WIR all day when in work and in the evenings they are let out into a FR area with netting so no bushes to lay under
