Blood in droppings

Recommended Posts

Upon letting the hens out today I noticed a normal sized faecal (normal brown and white dropping) with small segments of dark red blood in it. The hens have not had any changes to their routine or diet. Only major change is that I have started using chopped straw as bedding.

All the hens appear fine. Could the droppings be a warning sign for an illness or something along the lines of that?

Thanks,

Mr rir

If they look healthy in all other respects then I wouldn't worry too much.

I came across this fascinating site recently, I don't know if it's been linked to on here before, but it's very reassuring and you'll see that red bits in the poo are not necessarily a sign of illness. Click *warning - do not open this link if you're eating!
