Mrs_B
My Barred Rock is currently taking Marbocyl for a suspected infection. She's not been right for a couple of weeks, including not laying and being 'off' and when the vet checked her over early this week the vet commented she didn't have a lot of muscle on her despite my thinking that she was eating. She's only eaten maybe 2 handfuls in the last couple of days This morning after one dose of antibiotics last night her droppings are now green. Could this be from the antibiotics or something else? If the antibiotics don't improve the hen's health I am going to have a test done on the droppings - but the vet did mention an infection such as Coccidiosis. Her droppings have been more slimy (and she lays small and more frequently) than green, so this morning it was a bit of a shock to see the difference over night! x
Tweety
I wouldn't wait for the antibiotics to work or not, I would send off a sample to Retfords asap if your vet can't test it for you. The sooner you can confirm or eliminate cocci as the cause the better. Have you got any Nutridrops? They are good for stimulating appetite. Mrs_B
Thank you, Tweety (again, you've been a star helping me out recently!!) My Barred Rock has eaten a little bit more than yesterday but I am going to get a poo sample and send it to the vets tomorrow as I definitely don't want to leave it over the weekend. They've confirmed they can have the sample sorted out for me. I've read that the green droppings could be from the bile in her stomach due to not eating Hoping she eats a bit more tomorrow too. I will be giving her some Nutridrops tomorrow morning too. Thanks again! x
