UKMARCH
We finally took the plunge after thinking it was too costly and got an automatic door opener this summer so when we went away our hen sitter only had to visit once. It's great and now don't have to worry if we're out when it gets dark. OH is impressed and has been out before it opens just to watch it in action! daxigirl
Oooo I keep wondering about one so I could get a wee cockerel. Do tell, what type, price (if that's not too rude), where from, ease of construction and is it attached to your omlets or a separate layout. Cheers
UKMARCH
Hi, our cube and eglu are attached to a WIR and I generally leave the doors open so they can come and go and the auto door is to open up to the garden area this is because one is nasty and also a feather eater so this allows them all more space. I'm sure it could work though if attached to the run as a house door or with wooden hen houses. It was easy to fix although my OH had to make a new exit in the run so it took a bit longer. We also used a piece of plywood as the door and it works well. It is only a timer operated one as it suited and was cheaper than the light sensing ones they could have a timer attached but was another £40 odd pounds. It was from P&T Poultry and about £85 they have a video on their site showing how it works.
