Jenthelibrarian
So, I was home alone this weekend, with no car... I had a go at the recipe from the previous thread on making treats for chooks at home and it works fine. Next time I would divide it into smaller portions, and maybe bake in paper muffin cases, as I ended up with big slabs of the stuff and I only have two chooks I then had a go at a recipe for vegetarian dog biscuits that I found online. The following quantities turned out a dozen soft-ish biscuits, somewhere between a cookie and a scone I'd say. They are robust enough to hang up but I think they probably need freezing to keep for any length of time. 8oz of cooked carrot puree [i used up some very limp carrots and the stalk off a broccoli, I'm sure you could use any mash-able veg] 8oz of flour [mine was granary, happened to have in cupboard] I egg 2-4oz of oats Combine the first three items and then mix in the oats to make a workable dough. I think the quantity of oats will depend on how 'wet' your veg puree is! Roll/press out on a well-floured surface to about 1cm thick and cut into shapes as desired, I used a normal biscuit cutter. I poked hole for hanging with the handle of a wooden spoon! Bake for 45 mins - 1 hour at 150 degrees C/gas mark 2. Cooking time will depend on how moist your mix is and how crispy you'd like them. Mine came out fairly cripsy, but softened up a bit on cooling. Pics below of the finished result, and of my chooks' first impression Carrot is not their fave veggie at all, but the whole thing was gone by the next morning! UKMARCH
That looks tasty will have to try some as mine turn their beaks up at the harder pecking sticks I've made.
