Advice please....

My Pekins are now 2 years old. Over the summer they have developed a bit of an inconvenient habit. When I go out to shut the coup door they appear on-mass to say a very pleasant 'hello' and seem ready to chat  The 'hello isn't because they have treats and certainly isn't the usual squarking that takes place when I get home from work and offer them a few pieces of dried fruit.

I have tried walking away and hiding behind the coup but they simply stand and crane their necks trying to see where I have gone - it seems to me that they aren't fooled!

I have tried leaving the house via the front door to mount a surprise 'door closing' attack - but to no avail :(

The problem is that even though the nights are now drawing in they don't seem ready to settle until fairly late in the evening. The later it gets the more likely that Mr Fox might appear

They have extremly good hearing min just need to hear the back door handle pushed and they come running to the top of their run :-)

What sort of house do they have ? Mine are in a wooden one so Ive been able to install an electric door opener/closer its fantastic I set it to open at 8:30 and close at 9 pm mind you it can now be altered to close earlier. A few years back they were expensive and complicated but they seem to coming down in price and all in one unit so easy to fit and set up.

I still check each night that its closed and they are all in and of course go out in the morning to feed them, if I need to go out before they get up I need to be extremly quiet as they hear me and i can see them pearing through the tiny mesh air vent above the door :-)
