hi, i'm a keen chicken keeper and I wanted to know wether you need to have a pond to have ducks!!?? also, can you keep ducks and chickens together??

 

any help will be brilliant!

Yes you can keep ducks and chickens together - but probably not in the same eglu. (See other threads)

 

Ducks do need a pond/water but there are some breeds that need less then others. HTH

A large plastic container will do as a pond as long as you change the water. They must be able to immerse their heads completely or else they can get eye infections.

my chickens and duck are perfect friends these days! they hang out together quite happily. When we had the drake, they were a bit less pally but they spend most of the day together now.

 

The duck is sitting on eggs at the moment and when she gets up in the morning for food and a swim, the chickens rush in and lay in her nest! I have to sneak the eggs back out while she's not looking or she sits on the lot!!!

 

We had a children's plastic paddling pool until hubby built the rill and they were more than happy bobbing on that. Even a washing up bowl is ok as a temporary measure!
