ChairmanMoo
Hey all, I bought a bag of medicated pellets for my girls roughly two months ago, and promptly lost them in the 'sad cupboard of sadness'. After spending the day cleaning it out, said bag saw the light of day again. The question I have, is how long do they stay 'fresh' ? I can't find an expiry date on them at all, so have no idea if they're past their best before, and I'm certainly not going to take a chance. That being said, if they are unusable, what's the best way to dispose of them ? I'm loathe to dump them in the landfill bin (as we recycle / compost most of our waste) but if they have medication (albeit expired) I have a feeling nature won't be too impressed. Thanks very much, Ttfn, Moo
ChairmanMoo
Ok, found the expiry date. It was a giant green sticker on the top. Who would have thought..! So they expired on the 21st of October this year. Safe to use ? Safe to compost ? Best disposal method ? Thanks again
good_egg
I think mine said it was the active ingredients that expire (so flubenvet and the vitamins etc from the pellets). If you need to worm I would go for it, must be more of a margin than 10 days. If you don't need to worm then get rid - dump?
ohcarolina
Once they go out of date (i.e. the meds are no longer effective) you can use them as normal pellets. I just mix mine into the girls normal feed and have done so with no ill effects.
