Betty being very quiet

Recommended Posts

I got home from work about 20 minutes ago and went out as normal to check for eggs and shut the girls up for the night. I put my head in the coop to do the normal head count and only four girls - Betty wasn't there! I shone the torch around the coop and there was Betty huddled up with her eyes closed right at the back of the coop facing the back. I managed to get her and took her indoors to have a good look. She just sat there on top of the cooker looking sleepy. Her crop didn't really feel very fully, although was not empty. Her tummy feels ok. Botty is nice and clean and no problems there. She has been recently wormed but is just coming out of a moult. She appears to be feathering up nicely. She hasn't been laying regularly yet since her moult but did lay a very large (long!) egg yesterday.

I gave her some nutridrops and offered her some tuna (which she wasn't interested in) and popped her back in to bed with the others.

Any ideas what could be up? or does it just sound like normal mid-moult stuff? She is not quite two and a half years old.

Oh it could be a moult thing. :? My Molly is having a 3rd moult this year and is very quiet at the mo. She is coming out of the coop last in the morning....that would never had been allowed before!!!She was/is top chook, but isn't so interested in food and is subdued, so I'm keeping an eye on her. I'd do the same with your girl, maybe tempt her with her favs and the nutri-drops are great!

Mine are having the nettex tonic in their water and a few mealworms on my days off (Molly loves these!!)

Is anything else different? I've added my grown up babies a couple of months back and there's some pecking order gripes going on at the mo and you should hear the din & who-ha at bedtime!!!

The weather isn't helpful and the lack of sunlight!!!!Roll in the shortest day, then up the other side!! :D
