ben179v
Hi all Has anyone else experienced chickens throwing the feed out of the 'grub' feeder over the floor rather than eating it. My two are making such a mess at the moment and a lot is going to waste. Does anyone have any solutions or tips, I have tried adjusting the height, a bowl underneath to catch it doesnt work as they just scatter it even further. Thanks in advance. Redwing
Adjust the height as high as possible, if they have to crane their heads over it they cant chuck stuff out, also dont over fill it
Spinning Top
Mine sometimes chuck the pellets out then eat them off the ground. Funny girls.
auntielizzie
You will see on a previous post of mine "Preventing Food Wastage" posted on 11 January that I had exactly the same issue. I had an unused gravity feeder in the garage so I switched to that. It is amazing how much less food the girls are getting through now and there is hardly any waste at all now. If you don't have an alternative feeder, you could try raising the grub up a bit so that they can't scoop the food up so easily. Also, if I could go back in time, I would have stuck with pellets as the mash (which they love) makes them do it:!:
