I went to collect the eggs today and in the nest box was a perfectly formed tiny egg, about a cadburys cream egg size, about third the normal size. Any ideas?

Sounds like a wind egg. They are usually too small to contain a yolk. Generally nothing to worry about!

You're not being silly! (no such thing as a silly question!)

 

Not sure where the term came from, it's just one of a few names given to these types of eggs. They are sometimes also called cock's eggs, as there is no yolk so they are infertile it was thought they were laid by a cockerel.

ooh thank you. You learn so much on this forum, you lot know so much. I don't suppose you could help me with another quick problem. I have a chicken who has pulled out a claw and its bleeding a lot. Do I just leave it, and will it grow back? Thanks for your help.
