christyrose12
I cant remember where I read it now but has anyone used artificial grass in the nest box of the cube and was it successful? Have never seen it. Would it be easy to clean?
Leeloo
I went to a chicken lecture a few weeks ago and the speaker mentioned nest pads. I haven't tried them, but they sound interesting. They would be easier to clean and not get kicked out everywhere like other nesting material.
Adams Egg
Nest box?? Just had my entire lawn replaced with artificial turf and the chickens clearly don't recognise it as grass, they run across it to the beds and only venture onto the "grass" to pick up the odd titbits. Very easy to clean as the poo doesn't stick and washes off. I wonder though if it were in a nest box it may harbour things. Being artificial it would very easily slide out of the way when they try to scratch and form a depression to lay.
newcountrygirl
I bought a Doodlehouse and that came with artificial grass. It is really good cos the poo washes off easily. It also dries easily too. Having said that i took it out for the winter and replaced it with wood shavings. I shall give it a power wash when the weather gets a bit warmer and put it back in. sandyhas3chucks
oh come on guys!!! NOT nearly so much fun as chucking it all out and rearanging joking aside I think something that allows them to carry out their natural is best... There is nothing as delightful as a a girl happily nesting and decorating herself... tedious as it is for us
