Ok I have recently purchased four new chickens and my girls have gone to a new farm home for retirement, I must say the new set are not my "girls" if you understand they don't know me and we don't have the same friendship as I did with the others, we now two are seeming unwell one has a very floppy comb and isn't really hold balance as before and the other has a swelling below her vent my other girls were never really unwell as I am quite keen about my chickens but I got these from a person not as knowing and keen a me if you can Throw some light I would be very appreciated if you think it is the end then that's fine I don't want them to suffer the one with the swelling is laying fine she is a different breed than I have had before blue eggs and a odd shaped comb :0) looking forward to hearing from you Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Any other symptoms....not eating, sleepy, runny poo?? Have you wormed them? What breeds are they? What have you been feeding them on? Hopefully more info will shed light on what could be going on, but you may need the vet sooner than later and definitely if you think they are suffering!!!! The white hen is yes but the girl with the floppy one is not. Symptoms are lathatrgic in the black one really slow movements I turned over a log which I keep in the run to attract inspects today and. She was so very slow picking up the bugs? where as the white one is preening and lating fine? They are all on layers with s"Ooops, word censored!"s like veg peelings cooked and a bit of grain as a treat they are poltry drink and vitamins garlic supplements as I did with my old girls. Not sure on breads on might've a black rock? The other completely in the dark? With regards worming they are on organic cider vinegar twice a month in their water the kind with the plastic lid like they say in the books to get :0) Rach Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I would think bring them inside and have a good look over them for mites/lices and feel their weight/breast & crops. See if you can get a clues?? I would suggest worming them with flubenvet, it's the only thing that works!!! TBH I've not been keeping chickens that long (18mths) and have lost 2 myself recently , but they don't sound right and if you're worried I'd say act on your instincts and ...visit the vet. good_egg Posted March 18, 2013 Share Posted March 18, 2013 Definitely worm with flubenvet as ACV doesn't get rid of them, just helps to prevent perhaps. If she's not right I would take her to vets before you do anything like worming, might also help you with ages and breeds. Good luck. What is the swelling like on the white one? Do you have pics? How is the black one looking - hunched, puffed up, tail down etc? Have you had a good grope of both for any sore bits, checked legs, feet, eyes and nosey for scaley bits etc. how do tummys feel, how are their weights (can you feel keel etc) there's a good section on hen health checks on BHWT site Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
