heth1986
This Easter Weekend, I have had my dear OH slaving away in the garden, come rain, snow or shine, in an attempt to fox proof our WIR once and for all. The thing is, now it's done, it just looks FAR too big just for my 3 girls! I've made the decision to go and fetch a couple more ladies in the next couple of days... just to be sure I've got 3 young legbar girls at the moment, all 18 weeks old and looking rather grown up so i want a nice breed that will give us a reasonable amount of eggs (to thank our dear old neighbours for putting up with them!) but at the same time be a tad less giddy than my current rabble. I've whittled it down to 2 choices (I think) that are available at my local mad chicken ladies farm... The Light Sussex OR the Rhode Island Red? I think I'd like 2 of the same breed rather than one of each (because I like things to match?!) Having never owned either breed, I'm interested in your views / if anyone can think of another productive yet sensible breed?
good_egg
We have a buff sussex and had a RIR before. Loved both of them! Buffy - our sussex lays good large eggs. Viv, our RIR had peritonitis before she ever really got going... Not an indicator of any kind but I think I would go sussex - although are light sussex hybrids so would this be different? Perhaps see who you like on the day!? Good news anyway! Well done OH on run
