lay
This morning we found a baby pigeon on our lawn so put the chicks away. We have come home tonight and it has moved 3 meters across the lawn to the shelter of a shrub. No sign of any parents, we do howver know that some nest in a tree in our garden. This Pigeon is now way out of sight and does not seem to be calling. Should we intervene before it gets dark and temp drops?
Martin B
Well some people may say let nature work it's own way. I on the other hand would contact a local wildlife rescue, or perhaps bring it in a box with a lamp, like a brooder. Check it for injuries. Prongs
Bless it! I would have followed Martins footsteps in contacting the RSPCA or any local wildlife rescue service. We don't want it getting killed by the harshness of nature!
lay
We do not have a lamp. But a box with wood shavings would that be OK? We have quite a lievly dog so was thinking the shed - or not warm enough?
Martin B
I'm not sure about the shed, but it's better than nothing. Do you have a secure room?
Prongs
You could put it in a particular upstairs room, with the door shut, no need for a dog to go there! Should only be short-term if you plan for it to go to the wildlife people!
SarahJo
I did a rescue on a baby robin chick - if it has feathers and is developed - worms and seeds every couple of hours via tweezers. I took the robin to a local wildlife rescue and ifyou google for local centres you should find one near to you. My "ozzy" chick was fed and released successfully by Lower Moss wood sanctuary, in Cheshire.
lay
Baby Pigeon Update! We read the RSPB website for advice and it basically said don't interfere (which I think my b/f was secretly pleased about, since he didn't have to pick up an unfriendly pigeon and drive it half way across the county). Luckily, it seems to have turned out ok. He was still hiding around the garden yesterday. Hadn't seen any sign of the parents, but I don't suppose he would have lasted that long without them.
