More Ducks

Recommended Posts

I would think ducks are the same as hens in that they will need to establish a pecking order. Can you keep any newbies seperate, but next to ,the older ones? If you can do that for a week and then introduce them, that should help.

Why not ask the same question on the Practical Poultry forum as there will be more experienced duck keepers on there?

Helen has had new ducks so she should be able to help and will be along soon.

Hi,

I am in the process of introducing 2 new girl ducklings to my boys. At the moment they are in separate areas - but not cos i see any problem with introducing them to each other - they see each other through netting at the moment and have no problems and little interest in each other - it just cos they are eating different types of food at the moment. The younger ones still being on growers pellets.

Mine are different breeds of ducks (boys are calls and girls Khaki Campbells) but i am introducing 2 girls to 2 boys and i think the boys might be quite glad to see them

What sex are you thinking of introducing and how old and what sex are your existing ones? The only way i could see a problem is if you already have a pair (one male, one female) and you try introducing just more males.

Having said that all this, i am no expert, having not kept ducks for more then 3 months but i do know that ducks seem much friendlier towards each other then chickens are!

HTH

Helen

The girls are bigger then them Lesley already, so i am hoping they'll hold their own! :? The girls are campbells and the boys are calls. I'm hoping they'll make a nice little foursome and waddle round together but we'll see. The boys just ignore them at the moment as they are in their run in the daytime and the boys outside it...
