Goldie
Not sure what is happening with our Whitey, a 1 year old Light Sussex. She seems to be having a holiday from laying, only had 1 or 2 in the last fortnight. She has laid almost every day since we got her, even through the winter and no moult. So very strange not to be getting hers anymore! Is there any reason for this, other than being broody (which she definitely isn't)? Also, her eggs were always a lighter brown than the others, being a light hen, but for the last few weeks her eggs have been missing the colour 'department' it seems...almost porcelain white which again isn't normal for her. The eggs inside, however, are normal. Any reason she has gone way down in production despite being young (even for a hybrid)? I thought they were meant to increase this time of year! And why would they have lost all their colour? She's a lovely girl, this is her having a dustbath! Thanks, Goldie.
Eggasperated
I have a 1 year old pied sussex who is going the same way. She has never been a very good layer and now lays a mixture of good eggs, thin shell eggs, soft eggs and white shelled eggs (as you said perfectly fine inside); she only lays 2-3 times a week. I have tried her on various supplements and wormed all the girls but nothing has made any difference so I think I am just going to have to accept she is a poor layer and will probably stop altogether soon. Providing you are up-to-date with worming and there is no other signs of her being unwell or problems with lice/mites, it may just be one of those things. Lucky Whitey is a lovely girl, my pied Sussex is a nasty vicious thing who can't wait to take a stab at your finger (or face if I'm not careful) , so is very difficult to examine .
