Sireewiree Posted June 4, 2013 Share Posted June 4, 2013 I think one of my ladies has peritonitis. Seems to have all the symptoms, but has come on pretty quickly. Fine yesterday, but off food and definitely under the weather today. I'll take her along to our vet in the morning, but can anyone suggest anything to help in the meantime? I'm inclined to leave her in her cube surrounded by her chicky friends, where she'll be peaceful. However if there's anything I can or should do, then I'm sure one of you lovely people will know about it.... Is her tummy swollen and hot? Thanks for reply... She's rallied today. Her tummy wasn't hot yesterday, just enlarged in the intestinal area and feeling 'squishy' (to use a technical term!). She was drinking well, but no interest in her food, which was unusual. Her tummy feels less large today and she's back will the others as usual. I've put some ACV in her water and am keeping a close eye on her with the vet box at the ready. I have a good local vet, who wants to see her tomorrow if she's still under the weather. Sireewiree Posted June 5, 2013 Author Share Posted June 5, 2013 Well I wasn't happy with Mrs Chicken this afternoon, so visited vet. Vet wasn't sure what it could be (dont think that chicken conversant!), but injection of anti inflammatory and antibiotic and baytril for next few days. We'll just see how it goes... Vet was really hazy on egg consumption from hens taking baytril. She said 'either 8 or 14 days after last dose' and bottle label says 'not for birds producing eggs for human consumption'. Any ideas?
