SarahGlymond
Hello fellow omletters I plan on getting my purple cube this or next pay day and im very excited I have been doing my reaserch for quite a few months now and I think my husband is getting a little fed up with all the chicken talk we just want to actually get there now ! I would really appreciate any feedback on my area for my cube. I have put steel wire mesh down and then concrete slabs ontop of the wire both to deter foxes and rats tunnelling in I have willow edging all they way around and topped it with bark chippings is there anything else I can do to stop rats or foxes before I order my cube I am trying to be as well planned as possible ! Gertie
Wow, it sounds like a fortress! You could weight down the run skirt with blocks if it is on slabs, or use tent pegs & peg the skirt to the ground. That will prevent any lifting.

Gertie
Oh how exciting! I was exactly the same before I got my cube...boring everyone to death talking about chickens (the non chicken keepers that is). If you make sure you keep all your food sealed in metal bins, clear up any spills or take it in at night, that will help to avoid rats or vermin. Also make sure there are no obvious places for vermin to hide near your coop and a ready source of food! That's something I think neighbours might complain about. I have 3 cats so have never had an issue but when my friend looked after my chooks when I was moving house, she had rats quite quickly as her daughter spilled corn everywhere and they put the coop next to their open compost bin...rat paradise!!
