Sneezing/coughing

Recommended Posts

Being new to owning chickens I purchased four 9 week old chicks two weeks ago and then went out and bought a further two that were two weeks older. I tried to put the newest in and a fight ensued with the younger chicks (particularly the silkies) going mad and pecking them. It was devastating and I ended up having separate the run into two. The four established chicks sulked for quite some time. The new one that was picked on the most started coughing/sneezing. I have purchased a tonic off of the internet, she is bright eyed, no running nose, no dull eyes, is eating well loves worms) My question is was the cough and sneezing brought on by the stress of the other birds attacking it? the second one also coughs /sneezes a little but other than that very bright little 11 week old frizzles who are adorable. Should I be worried by the sneezing? and if so can anyone suggest a vet in the Maldon area?

They can get colds... Tonic is a good idea. I think citricidal is meant to be good for sniffles... Is there any discharge in nostrils or bubbles in eyes? Also can you hesr a rattle when you listen to breathing/chest? If yes go for vet (list of chicken friendly vets somewhere on here or on BHWT). If not I would just keep an eye on them and if they seem healthy hopefully will pass.
