FreakinPekin
Hi peeps! I have a broody hen (nicknamed broody in fact!) who is absolutely useless as a laying hen as she is broody 364 days of the year - I swear she only lays once a year!! She is in great condition and does eat which is great but I am struggling to know what to do with her! I am due to have my first baby in 8 weeks and I am thinking that I need to give her a job (other than annoying the other girls by hogging the nesting box) so either I need to cool her off (and need advice on how to do this - I have heard that you can dunk them in cold water...but not loving the sound of that!) OR getting some hatching eggs under her to expand my Pekin flock? What worries me, is that I do not know what it takes to rear chicks and with my baby due very soon, I'm not sure I need the extra responsibility, although I have heard that you pretty much leave it all up to the broody to do with exception of the usual husbandry. I have a rabbit hutch with attached run that I can keep the broody and hens in.... I am just seeking advice really! I have never done it before and I would love some advice from you all, if you can offer it? Thanks for reading and I hope to hear from some of you soon xx
