jenuk99
I have been cleaning my new house for a week now and starting to paint it. Every time I go out to the back yard I look at how big it is and wonder if its too small for an eglu. The yard is paved and I had been thinking about a couple of bantams, but I wanted to know if other people had small gardens and how they fitted the eglu and free ranging in. Thanks Jen
Lesley
Hi Jen Motherhen - who is an infrequent visitor to the forum these days - has a small garden, well yard really. She fenced off a corner and put her Eglu on a platform inside this area. She had two full size hens and they had the space under the platform as well as all around. It could be the solution you are looking for. If you look in the Gallery - starting at the end, old photos - you may find some of her photos. Although I had more garden, I also had Eglus on a platform, my photos were called Eglu Towers. Bantams make far less mess than the bigger hens so they would be a good option. Laura & CTB
Hi Jen I have a small garden which is on two levels both only about eighteen feet square. The first level is all decking which leads to the "top" level via 4 steps. the top level is all concrete and is where my eglu is. I started with the eglu and run but then realised I could make a bigger run without using any more floor space than was already taken up. My girls get to run round the garden every day and get plenty of greens to make up for the lack of grass - oh and a turf every so often to play with
