PoachedPlease
I have 2 13 week chicks, and sadly the beautiful light sussex is a cockeral. I also have 3 stroppy hens who don't like these new chicks even though they have been in sight in a seperate eglu for 8 weeks. My question is...I don't want to introduce my one chick (hashtag) on her own as she will have a miserable time. So if I take the opportunity to buy another pol chicken and introduce them two together first, it should be easier to introduce them both to the main coop at week 18? So in what order do I do things...should I despatch her much loved brother first, then when should I intro new chick? Or could I intro two new chicks to the two of them, and dispatch cockeral later. Or should I just wait and buy new pol to introduce with hatch tag AND the stroppy hens all at the same time at 18 weeks and let them sort it out. Yuck confused. chucknette
Hi If this was my situation, I would buy two more hens young pol and introduce them to the chicks then when they know each other I would put them into the main coop at night. When I do this I spray all of them with diluted vinigar or some use vanilla to mask the different smell of each other. This always works well for me. As to the young lad I can't help I'm afraid as I have never faced this one. Regards Chucknette
