Now how do they do that?

Recommended Posts

I have one of the early small Eglu's.

Until a week ago the hens had never worked out how to open the door themselves in a morning. Now it is happening each morning but tonight I went to close them up when it was getting dark only to find that they had put themselves to bed AND CLOSED THE DOOR behind them!!!:shock::shock:

A far stranger event this evening. I was in the house and heard a thumping sound and frenzied squawking from the Eglu. Positive that a fox or cat had somehow got in even though it is protected with weldmesh I raced out with a torch to find 2 hens dozing in the Eglu, one outside and the other at the far end of the outdoor run. Without warning one or the other would suddenly screech and run the length of the run. When I tried to pick one up she wrenched free shedding feathers.

It is most odd, the ones who were agitated are normally the most docile and easy to handle.

They are now back in the Eglu and all is quiet

I am lost for an explanation.
