debbiedoobs
Hi all, I have a 7 week old lavender silkie chick that is free ranging with her mum. Since she hatched i have given her chick crumb, i also put in some food for her mum which is a complete food mix with pellets, corn, maize, grit and vegetables. The thing is mother hen has always encouraged her to eat the other food as well, is this really bad? Now she's at the age to change food do i need to put her on growers pellets? They dont seem to eat much of their food as they eat a lot of weeds, bugs etc. Will this harm her?
sjp
mine go onto growers at about 6-7 weeks old broodies get the same food as the chicks until they go back to the mob, if you put separate food in for mom she'll just encourage the chicks to eat it. but mine like yours get to FR so they get to eat anything and everything including layers feed mine have had apple, courgette, tomatoes, unripe grapes and corn on the cob plus vine leaves and potato leaves that they help them selves to not sure how much though as they have to take their turn as all my mob FR together . their just over 2 weeks old some folk will say that they only need the off the self feed but personally I think they should have a varied diet which includes the off the self feed as a large part of that diet
debbiedoobs
Yeh Thanks, that's what I thought. I put food in for mum cos I didn't know whether she would lose out not having her feed. I'll get some growers and put them both on them
