Willow
Write to them asking them to provide a report of what they did in the shop to try and repair it, what HTC did and exactly what they claim has been done to it that was unauthorised so that you can send to an independent expert as you have never had any unauthorised work carried out. You don't have to send the report on but it would be interesting to see what they do in reply.
Cinnamon
Goodness, how annoying & frustrating for you. My HTC recently broke about 16 months in & was replaced no questions asked by Vodafone. I agree .... Get a written account of exactly what 'work' has been done to your phone. It could be something as simple as a new battery, but I guess that could still make the guarantee invalid?? Good luck & keep us updated!
