Hi all,

We have two new bantam girls, a silkie and a pekin, who we purchased three weeks ago.

We had the usual running around and pecking which has calmed down now to the occasional old girl showing them who is boss.

However the new girls will not go to bed in the eglu, they end up trying to sleep on a high up shelf in the WIR. I end up having to go out once it is dark and tucking them in the eglu myself.

 

Can anyone suggest what we need to do to get them to go in the eglu?

One of my new girls is still not going in by choice, It has been a week and im still putting her to bed!! But if you keep putting them in they will get the hang of it x

our 3 new ex bats wouldnt go in to start with but they soon got the hang of it x just keep putting them in till they do !!

I think it may be more of a case of the smallest bantam being scared of the bigguns!

yup we have that 2 - our ex bats are less that half the size of our original two POLs

 

They hang around the door of the Eglu - and half go in and then come out again - cos they know the big bad bullies are in there But they do eventually make a run for it and hide in a corner inside !!

 

Hoping they will all become good friends eventually - they arent too bad but defo not best mates yet !

We are up to 7 weeks now and they still won't go in! I think I'm going to have to get drastic and create some sort of one way tunnel system for night times!

Is it safe to leave them out in the run? I've noticed my bantams prefer to perch high rather than go into the eglu or cube so as I have a secure run, I let them stay out all weathers.
