Bad weather proofing.

Recommended Posts

Complete newbie....bold chickens, over protective stalker Soo!

Got the set up on Wednesday morning, "what was I thinking?!" wail by 2 pm.

I have a go up with short run, small walk in run attached. Two chickens..Rita and Bette. Hayworth and Davis.

My question is winter protection for the walk in. Should I tarp everything I can...this will leave only the door space. I'm worried that if I do this the wind will channel in and the whole thing will take off like the Tardis.

Just cover a bit? Which bit?

What have other people done?

Help!

This is what we did, only we have just changed the tarps for clear ones to let more light in. Seems to work really well and not had any problems with wind as yet.

Last year in the winter we had a smaller run and the rain got in and made everything soggy so this time we have the wood chip on plastic pallets, then a good quality porous membrane so hopefully the water can drain through.

Hope you are enjoying your girls. Its addictive, I started off with three and now have 21.

Many thanks Molly. I've decided to tarpaulin...beloved is in favour of building a small house around them!

They're on grass at the moment but I've ordered hardwood chips so I'll tarp and chip together. Chickens should really be on the NHS, better than any exercise programme I've ever known.
