PixieDust
As some of you may have read, I purchased some galvanised weld mesh wire from a company on eBay. We didn't put it up initially as OH has been slow with the building of the run. When we put it up the wire was just outside the eBay 30 day money back guarantee. It started to rust in less than a week and I approached the company who were not really interested. I opened a case with eBay and they showed very poor customer service. After me putting up photos and being explanatory as to the issues, I was barely getting a one word reply each time; they finally offered me a £5 partial refund, which was less than 10% of the purchase price. I went back to eBay to escalate the matter which they did and I found out today that they emailed and telephoned the company getting no reply on either occasion. And that really is that. eBay have escalated the company to their Safety and Trust department because they claim the wire was "high quality" in their advert, which it clearly wasn't. They may get their account suspended, deleted or just a "don't do it again", but I will never get feedback on it. They told me to go to Trading Standards who really couldn't have been less interested if they tried. They did say I could write to them but said they wouldn't really get involved until they had had several letters from me. Still, only good thing is we got given some weld mesh to finish the run from a friend, which isn't rusty. And the girls will be picked up around 16th November. Plus having weighed up all the postage for getting bits and bobs for the girls on eBay, it seems purchasing all my sundries from Omlet will be cheaper. Beantree
Heard lots of people complaining about ebay PixieDust. We've stopped buying from them for a similar reason. One thing we have discovered with twisted wire mesh and welded mesh is the quality of new stuff is appalling. The plating thickness, as you have found out, is sometimes nothing more than a decorative finish. We have had rusty weld mesh as well, but it took a few months. Really all you can do is buy the most expensive. Some of our garden chicken wire is well over 20 years old and there is no rust at all. Our first roll of weld mesh is 5 years old and no rust. PixieDust
Seller's reply to me saying I had contacted Trading Standards was "Thank you. I look forward to hearing from them. " What a complete shower! Edited September 17, 2014 by Guest
