patsylabrador Posted November 1, 2014 Share Posted November 1, 2014 Bit blown away by Lincolnshire this week. My absolute favourite was Donna Nook which we got to at dusk. I've never seen wild seals and their cubs. This was a magical experience, their calls carried across and the sound of them moving too. I want to go back. Skegness was something else, both tacky and gorgeous. Had a busy few days and there was so much more. The seals though, that was so amazing. newcountrygirl Posted November 2, 2014 Share Posted November 2, 2014 Hi Patsylabrador - I live just 2 miles down the road from Donna Nook - a place called South Somercotes. We have lots of lovely beaches nearby great for walking the dog and Louth is a lovely market town 8 miles away with lots of individual shops. We moved here two years ago and absolutely love it. I also went to Louth where we had a fine pub lunch and strolled around. It is so different to my home town and it took me a while to realise why. I think it was that the shopfronts were so individual and there were so many small businesses. It took us ages to find a supermarket chain. The town is rich with butchers, bakers, grocers etc but because of all the sprmkt chns here I find small shops with proper service a challenge. I thought it was a great town and seemed so busy with notices of events and stuff. Part of me would like to live there but I think London is in my blood now. I loved my short break in Lincolnshire and we also went to Horncastle and Stamford. Missed Coningsby this time but did that before. newcountrygirl Posted November 6, 2014 Share Posted November 6, 2014 wow - you certainly look to have had a great time. The baby seals are just starting to be born at Donna Nook. I am hoping to get up there in the next day or two. South Somercotes is a very small village - all we have is a church and even that no longer functions as a church but is owned by the Churches Conservation Trust. We love living here and have been here for nearly 3 years now. Coming from a large town in Yorkshire (and my hubby originally from Chiswick) the first things we couldnt get over were a. how quiet it is and b. the night sky and all the stars. We are so lucky to have found this place. We have 3 acres which includes two small lakes and we have water voles, owls, deer, badgers and hares.
