Soft shells, watery poo and bullying advice please

Recommended Posts

We purchased 4 birds (2 Pekins, 2 Babur d'Anvers) in April this year. They joined our two original Pekins.

After a slow introduction and then reintroduction of the Babur d'Anvers they seemed to be getting on well enough, until July when one of the new Pekins started laying soft shells. We eventually separated her at the end of July for 2 weeks and she started laying normally again. After this we reintroduced her to the flock.

However we noticed that without the Pekin who lays soft shells, the run was a calmer, happier place to be. When she was reintroduced the bullying started again. The top 2 hens (our originals) pick on the Pekin who lays soft shells and then she immediately tuns on the two Barbu d'Anvers.

Shortly after her return to the run she began laying the soft shells again.

We desperately want harmony in the flock again and have decided to sell the Babur d'Anvers as they are not really happy sharing with the Pekins and we have neither the space nor the time for 2 runs and houses.

My question really is what to do with the soft shell laying Pekin? I feel that we probably need to sell her too, unless we can come up with a happier solution for all concerned.

Can anyone suggest a way for all 4 Pekins to get on or do we just need to remove her too so she can live somewhere else where she is not worried to the point of laying soft shells?
