Jamies new campaign (Battery hens)

Recommended Posts

I have had horrid computer troubles over the weekend, so apologies if this has already been posted,& sorry for being a bit hazy on the details.

Jamie Oliver has taken up the battery hen cause, which can only be a good thing :P

From what I remember about the article I saw, he is planning a big glass cube in London somewhere (Leicester square, maybe, or Covent Garden), which WAS going to have battery hens in, but due to welfare regulations will now have video of their plight instead.

Good old Jamie. Lets hope it is as successful as his School Dinners campaign

:P

Oh, I missed that but it sounds like great news :D:D:D

I helped out at another rescue yesterday, and every time I see the poor, featherless battery girls I want to weep at the fact that it's the great British public and our demand for cheap eggs that inflicts this misery on these poor creatures. Quite honestly I'm ashamed sometimes.

That said Immi's CO from Air Cadets is leaving tomorrow and the tradition is to pelt leaving officers with eggs and flour  I suggested rotten tomatoes, but it has to be eggs and flour, so I've just spent well nigh £2 on a dozen eggs for her to waste  Couldn't buy battery or barn eggs even for that

From what I read in The Mail, there were going to be happy hens in the big glass pen (I think....), & video footage of Battery hens on screens behind, showing the difference in their conditions.

I would imagine that if it were done well, & they had heaps of straw then the hens would be happy enough scratching about all day.

I am sure they woill be lots of people there making sure they are all OK.

Thats how I read it, & its a bit differnet from the Suns article from the link above, but it IS The Sun :lol:
