Chicken bald back

I have seen these on another forum and was wondering if anyone has used them on here am thinking that these might be a good way to protect the rass in the run especially in winter if it gets a little wet under foot.

 

In case you are not sure what they are they are basically wooden frames with chicken wore over them the you put on the grass wire side up they let the grass grow underneath them before the chickens can get at it. You could also use upside down bread crates and I am thinking there maybe other things you could use too.

I tried something similar but made the mistake of putting the mesh straight on top of the grass and used a inch by inch mesh which didn't stop them from pulling up all the roots but these should work it looks like 6mm x 6mm mesh with grass and a cut and come salad mix
