Pro - Does anyone else's nest boxes get soaked in rain?

Hi everyone,

 

My partner and I are intending to adopt some ex-battery hens in the summer, after moving house. Our plan at the moment is to buy the eglu cube with 2m run and attach it to the 2m x 2m lo-rise walk in run. I'm wondering whether this will be enough space for 4 hens to potter around during the day whilst we are at work. They will be allowed to free range on evenings and weekends, when we are allowed to supervise. Would the hens have enough space or do you think they will need a larger run?

That sounds like plenty of room for 4 hens. You might want to think about adding perches to maximize use of space.

I have no personal experience with Exbats (gavclojac knows much and much more), but some seem to have initial problems with the Cube ladder. You might need to (temporarily) adjust it to their not so mobile bodies. There are lots of examples on this forum.

Thanks for the tip - we know there's lots of things they'll find difficult at first so I'll read up on how we could adapt the ladder for them. I've found the forum to be a wealth of information and inspiration so far - so good to have access to all of this when we're starting out!
