Broody hen, first experience

Recommended Posts

I have just read something this morning and wondered if she was egg bound? The symptoms seem very similar to broodiness. She did produce quite alarge egg last week and was fine after that but may of been trying to pass an egg, however the first one that did follow after that was small, pullet sized, so maybe not???

Same thing today. Babs went in to lay an egg this AM and there was an egg in there later but cannot be sure it was hers. However tonight at around 7am she sat in her nest again. She can take 90mins or so to lay anyway. It is now 9.30pm and she was still in the nest area so I lifted her up in the nest box and put her in the roosting section with the others and closed the door. Someone suggested at 28 weeks she was too young to be broody and think last time I made an error thinking she was broody and had problems just laying? The last time I did isolate her and she laid an egg during the night but was not sitting on it so assumed she had problems laying. Tonight she is in the nest box still. I give them ACV each day for egg laying and general health although have onky started doing so daily after reading a few articles on the benefits.BTW she is very regular...daily pretty much. Yesterday there was a slightly rippled egg but again cannot be sure who delivered it.

UPDATE THIS MORNING...she is out of the nest and eating with the others but I expected an egg this morning but none there???She is also doing this "buck buck buck" from time to time also.
