My faverolle is making a strange noise

Recommended Posts

My salmon faverolle Maggie has been making a strange noise like a high pitched cough for about 6 weeks , some days I may hear it a couple of times and other days I'm not aware of it .

She has no other symptoms , she is active , laying and eating and drinking. I have Apple cider bungee in her water and I'm feeding her garlic , I have also tried olive oil on bread.

Any advice would be great as I am worried it may be a respiratory problem that may turn fatal at a later date.

I hope my experience helps. My bantam orp had it from being young and lived 6 years.

Occasionally she got rattly breathing, if it was just in her throat and nose I did nothing but if she was chesty she had 3 days of Tylan but that was rarely, maybe once a year. The vet never told me what this cough (snick) was but I think it was a problem with an airsac. She had a good life.

I'd be interested in others experiences.

When do you hear the cough? Is it throughout the day or at the same time? It may not be the same thing at all, but my Sussex makes a high pitched cough at the end of the day when she's been stuffing herself last thing at night and her crop is really full - it appears to be her way of hiccupping or settling her crop. I believe she stops doing it when she's had a drink.
