cheryllh
Hi we have 7 chickens all bought from the same farmer and at the same time, within a week of us having them one got a bad eye and had to be seperated from the others in order for us to treat her. She has been fine for a fortnight but has still been seperated from the others they have been enclosed in a run and she has been in a seperate pen but next to and in sight of the others the last week we have tried to introduce her to the others but is picked on she is sleeping with them in the night but the minute they are let out in the morning she is pecked and flies out. we have put netting over the run but now she is getting tangled in that and we have to get her out. Should we just carry on as we are and putting her in the coop in the night or put her back in during the day in the hope they accept her. I have started to feed them either side of the fence but next to each other and she is still terrified of them. Any ideas thanks
Grandmashazzie
Oh dear,it's a minefield. As someone has said in previous posts netting not great as they can get tangled up. Can you create two runs? That is what I have had to do,see previous thread re Silkie. It seems separation has caused other 6 to look on her as stranger and attack. Do you know bottom hen of 6 and maybe try to integrate her with lonely girl. Give them 2 water and 2 feeders and see how that goes and maybe add in another girl after a week. If all goes well gang of 3 and gang of 4 and maybe no reintegration problems. Do you have enough space for 7 and lots of water and feed points and high perches so bullied hen can escape to? My problem was they seemed ok ! I have 3 water and 3 feeders and I think Silkie was chased and they drew blood. Then they all set upon her and she went down.
