The Dogmother
After a summer at Lesley and Carl's farm, being a broody with varying degrees of success, my lovely black pekin, Lily is back... with Chick in tow He is one of her hatchlings, and still needs his mum, so we're going to raise him until he is big enough to go back to the farm with the big chooks and be fattened up for the pot. Third day in and they seem to be integrating with the others and settling down - I'll try them in the eglu run again tonight. I bunged them in the run the first night, and they were fine at first, but Dolly started picking on them, so I set them up a temporary home in the dog crate next to the run. It's only small, so just for night time, but it gives them some protection from the others at night and first thing in the morning. Chick is a gangly teenager at the moment and cheeps a lot, he has a tiny fluffy bit on the top of his head, which could be a sign of soem ceam legbar parentage, but who knows...
