slynch
I would be pleased if someone can enlighten me as to what might be happening with 2 of my hens - black Australorps. They came into lay in January 2005 and stopped, all but the odd egg in about May this year. perhaps this is the natural end of their egg laying life? The thing is, they are often in the nesting box, seemingly trying to lay an egg, and yesterday one of them laid a sizeable irregular shaped 'skin type' mass. I cut this open and although soft, was solid with 'vein like' structures in yellow and pink. The hens have not been with a cockerel. I am wondering if this is normal and perhaps is part of the oviduct signalling the end of their egg laying life? I have a photo of the mass but don't seem to be able to post this here? can anyone help me please? Thank you.
Egluntyne
Sounds like what is called a "lash" which is bits of internal tissue which slough off. To paste a picture here you need a...Photobucket account... They are free and the instructions are easy to follow.
