puffball
Well I figured I wasn't the only one with stupid/funny chickens. I'll start with what they did this morning... *names have been changed/borrowed It was a wet and misty morning and I braved the cold to get the chickens their breakfast. They were then allowed to free range(well they kind of get out before you have a chance to shut the gate and at that time in the morning you don't want to chase hens around the garden so they all got 'chilling time') and followed me to the porch door. I went off to have breakfast myself and to chill out. An hour later I decided to go out and see what the girls had gotten up to. 'They'll probably be full of yummy bugs after being out for so long' I thought. When I opened the door six little voices clucked up at her as if to say 'you've finally decided to join us'. It turns out that they stood there for the whole time just waiting for me! How a chickens mind works I have no idea.... Let's see who has the funniest story... Guest
are you sure they'd been there for an hour and not just come back when they heard you coming? If they did stand there for an hour then I'm gobsmacked! Mine seem pretty sussed but then ive only had them about a month but they seem to learn pretty fast what's what, aint no flies on my chooks
Snowy
Yes I think that, although they do things that make me laugh, they do have things sussed. I invested in some window boxes this year to grow herbs, you know, 'out of the reach of the chickens?' Went into the kitchen the other day and peering in through the window was Pom, sat in the window box, munching away on my curly parsley! And mine will camp on the back door step for ages - if I haven't been out with their tea by 3pm, they all sit there and wait for it.
Laura & CTB
When I had the eglu run my girls got used to the entrance/exit being at the front of the run - for over SIX months now they have had a new run with the entrance at the side - I open the door and guess what - they still jump up at the front of the run trying to find the way out

They were preening themselves while they waited. I'm sure that even your girls will do something silly at some point!

Couperman
One of ours 'Flurry' is as thick as a whale omlet! She watches the others leave the run to free range and then can't find her way out! Once she has stumbled on the way out she can't find her way back in! She is soooooooooo funny. Kev.
