Ladylucan
Looking at the Ex Batts site etc, i notice that a couple of the girls are wearing clothes, Is it advisable to clothe them or are they ok without it, ?, as i am looking to get some and want to give them the best start. Cate in NZ
I think it depends on how well feathered they are, and what the temperatures are like outside. Without feathers it's impossible for them to keep themselves warm, so unless you can provide them with heated accomodation a little jumper might be nice for them I got some ex batts in May, and still ended up dressing one of my girls (although not as stylishly as Emma managed to dress Flump) because she was so bare she was beginning to get sunburnt

Guest
personally, I'd ring or e-mail your local BHWT co-ordinator. They'll probably have specialist knowledge of how to deal with the poor 'oven ready' girls. They have contact details on the BHWT web site or you could PM Buffie from this site. 1 of my girls has a lot of feathers missing but isn't what you'd term 'oven ready' and I worry about her at night. Her feathers are growing back slowly, she has lots of spikes at the moment. I hope they cuddle up to each other at night to keep warm. She's not as bad as some I've seen though. She seems to be fine and we haven't put any wooly pullies on her or anything. I think, or rather I HOPE, the oven ready girls are few and far between. 2 of my girls only had tiny bare patches of their necks where they rubbed on the bars of their cage but the other 2 were in poorer condition. I pestered my poor BHWT co-ordinator to death with questions, I really think they are your best source for very specific battery hen advice. When I "dressed" Tilly I cut a sleeve off an old t-shirt of hubby's and then made slits in it for the wings, but I wasn't doing it for the warmth. I'll see if I can find a link to Emma's thread but it was quite some time ago now Edited to add this link http://club.omlet.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16249&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=
