Eglu at night - ope or closed?

Recommended Posts

Hello

I have an eglu and 2 metre run for my 12 week old bonded rabbits. They go in the eglu at night and I shut the door until morning as I'm worried about them being cold and also foxes. Does anyone else do this or do you keep the door open at night and let them come and go?

Thanks for your help

12 weeks isn’t very big yet I guess? I think I would be inclined to keep it closed until they are more fully grown, but it does depend on your set up and weather.
If you are not sure they’ll be safe from predators best to keep it closed, but rabbits are normally also active at night. So provide plenty of hay and water in the hutch.

Living in Australia, I don't leave my rabbit in our Omlet run or locked in the hutch at all. She is brought inside at sunset so she doesn't get eaten alive by mosquitoes. Locking her in the hutch at night would protect her from the mossies but she'd then overheat during our summer nights! So we opt to bring her inside every night. Which is a pain as I thought with owning an Omlet we'd be able to leave her out overnight and I'd get my laundry back! hahahaha
