Debby In France
Hi everyone, I have read all over the place that tobacco plants frequently carry a mite called red spider mite or simply tobacco spider mite, it originated from the states and can cause mayhem with a crop. I have also read that these nasty little critters can destroy plants in veggie beds, as I live next to an organic farm I need to know, for certain if they are 100% safe. Has anyone else come across this and can anyone tell me if the tobacco stalks sold for hens are treated against the nasty little critters ? Many thanks for reading this Debby
Beantree
I would expect that the chemicals used to control any pests are far more dangerous @Debby In France. Do you mean 'crop' as in plant yield, or 'crop' as in chickens? Chickens can eat and digest pretty much anything so I wouldn't worry about them. Debby In France
Sorry I mean the crop as in plants, it's my veg garden and my neighbours organic farm that I am concerned about. I know that tobacco leaves are poisonous to hens but the stalks are fine for some reason, I guess the hens aren't interested in them 🤷🏼♀️
Debby In France
I am now in a state of confusion, it seems that there is a mite on tomatoes called tobacco red spider mite which is evasive 🤷🏼♀️ Sorry guys I think I was panicking over nothing
