Lone Ranger
Hi, My new chooks are due to arrive on the 7th Feb, and I've been reading as many posts as possible to make sure I'm up to speed - but can anyone recommend a good overall 'how to look after your chicken' book that I could have as reference when not online ? There seem to be dozens available, but am looking for a novice/ general entry level book. Thanks again.
Leicester_H
I got this one http://www.omlet.co.uk/shop/shop.php?cat=Books&sub=Chicken&product_id=97 which is a good intro. Together with the leaflet you get from omlet, these contain about all you need to know to get started. H

Couperman
Hi, 'Starting with Chickens' by Katie Thear is a good beginners guide. Kev.
MedusA
I got the one Hazel recommended a while before I got my girls. It was that the convinced me to get an eglu, rather than a wooden henhouse. It's quite good for basic info.
Olly
Another good one is 'Hens in the Garden, Eggs in the Kitchen' by Charlotte Popescu - I found it on Amazon. Fewer pictures and more wordy bits, but it's very informative! I read chicken books in bed!
Hen Watch
"Keeping Pet Chickens" written by the Omlet folk, is great. It's a good all round introduction. I actually got it out from the library. They had just bought a brand new copy after having so many requests for it. I've also got "Choosing and Keeping Chickens" by Chris Graham. This is the Practical Poultry magazine editor. It's also got really good all round advice plus lovely pictures of 50 or so pure breed chickens (and a little bit about hybrids). I would recomend it. You can buy it on Amazon.
