Egluntyne
Yep! It is all a bit hit and miss when they are new to laying as their egglaying tackle and hormones are settling down. You may well get a few double yolkers in the early days too!
Eyren
Also it takes about 25 hours from ovulation to laying, so most hens will lay slightly later each day, then have a day off when their next laying time falls after bedtime. But some hybrids seem to have a 24-hour cycle and lay every day at the same time!
clucky1
Mine were a bit hit and miss too when they first 'started'. They now have sorted themselves out. I have 6 chooks and I either get 6 or 5 eggs a day. If the weather has been very cold suddenly - I may get one day where I get

waders
Hi dogduck, I got my girls mid December, 2 gingernuts and a pepperpot. Betty, a gingernut, started laying first and she has laid everyday since! Minnie, the pepperpot, started next and she lays everyday too. Pearl, the other gingernut, started laying on Valentines day and she lays regularly every other day! There doesn't seem to be any logic to it, you just get to know your girls and their habits after a while Good Luck! Lisa
